ABOUT THE FILM
After Damian Samuels’ first short film FISH! he knew he wanted to make a feature film but felt he didn’t have enough experience yet, so he decided to up the ante and challenge himself to make a much “bigger” short film.
Consequently, after starting life as a crowdfunded KICKSTARTER campaign, THE FIVE WIVES & LIVES OF MELVYN PFFERBERG involved an ambitious 5-and-a-half day shoot, a cast of 30 actors, extras, children and animals, Pinewood Studios, the filming of five different-looking weddings in one day, VFX created by the Academy Award-winning Milk & The Mill, and a Spice Girl singing the theme song.
“I wanted to create a timeless world with no specific geographical locations, one that would be of interest to all ages without barriers of sex, swearing or violence, but also that would appeal to an international audience. When I have attended foreign film festivals in the past, it has been extremely satisfying seeing and hearing a non-English-speaking audience laughing along to British comedies, particularly my own film FISH!, and with this in mind I aimed to make a virtually silent comedy that could translate to audiences across the globe, transcending language and culture. I have been so lucky to have been reunited with my brilliant and generous Executive Producers, and to have worked with such an incredibly talented cast, crew and an amazing post production team, all of whom have all given their time and abilities for free to realise this project.”
